Round 2 of the 2019 Ardee Cycling League was held over the formidable Dromin circuit. It was a nail biting finish with last weeks winner James McMorrow having to settle for second place behind Gary Gorman, by only a few cm. Andy McAfee fought hard to take 3rd place.

The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club held the press launch for the Skerries 100 Road Races at the Hills Cricket Club in Milverton, a place that many would regard as the spiritual home for the event as it was based there for many years.

12/05/19 - MLVW Show

My second trip to Kilbeggan in as many weeks was well worth the journey for the MLVW show, which was sponsored by J & A Commercials. It was held on the same site as the American V8 show a few weeks back.
There was some drop dead gorgeous vehicles turned out for the show.

11/05/19 - Darkness Into Light Ardee

Here's a few short clips that I recorded before the start of the event yesterday morning.
Apologies for the poor quality but it was recorded in the dark ( obviously ... )

06/05/19 - JPCCNI Cars And Coffee

The JPCCNI (Japanese Performance Car Club of Northern Ireland , I think ) are very active on the club scene. I'd been thinking about going up to their regular Cars And Coffee event in Lisburn on the first Monday of each month for the past while. I missed out on the Cars And Coffee event at the weekend, so I decided to go up the JPCCNI event and I was disappointed. Disappointed that I'd left it for so long! Wow, some absolutely stunning machinery there and the lads were saying that there would normally be more cars but the club had run the Loughgall show on Saturday and the owners probably took a break. I will have to go back another night so .....

06/05/19 - Glyde Rangers 4 Peaks Challenge 6KM Family Fun Run/Walk/Jog

There was a great turnout for the 6KM family fun run \ walk that was organised by Cora McCourt in aid of the Glyde Rangers 4 Peaks Challenge that will take place next month.

Sunday 5 May 2019

Who do you think you are, Joey Dunlop?

I was at the 2019 VJMC Show in Dublin today and was in awe of some of the stunning machinery on display. One machine that really grabbed my attention was an immaculate 1997 RVF400 NC35. I was shooting around it when I noticed that it was signed by the late Joey Dunlop. I enquired about the back story to this and think it's well worth sharing the details.

05/05/2019 - 2019 VJMC Show

The VJMC Show is always one of the highlights of the year for me and even though today's visit was short, it was really well worth it. There was plenty to see and some nice bikes too.....

2019 Around A Pound Tandragee 100 Road Races

Our 2019 road racing season got off to a great start at the Tandragee 100 Road Races today.

1994 Carling Rally of the Lakes

The upcoming Cartell Rally of the Lakes next weekend prompted me to upload these photos from the 1994 Carling Rally of the Lakes. Yep, 25 years ago boys and girls.
It was a fantastic weekend for the sport but the world of motorsport was rocked by the accidents in Imola that weekend that claimed the lives of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna da Silva.

19/04/19 - Cars And Coffee at E.Fox Engineers

I got a chance to sample a different brew of Cars And Coffee this morning by attending the event held at E Fox Engineers in Baldonnel Business Park on the outskirts of Dublin.
And needless to say, it didn't disappoint with plenty of fantastic vehicles on display and friendly faces to meet.
Check out the De Tomaso Pantera GTS, now that is a muscle car! I have a feeling I will see it again soon.

1994 Circuit Of Ireland Rally

Stephen Finlay and Dessie Wilson took victory in their Michelin Pilot Escort Cosworth, which still has to be one of the best liveries ever for a rally car.

12/04/19 - Videos from Men's Charity Wax Night In Aid Of Happy Feet For Sophia

Here are some videos that I recorded at the Men's Charity Wax Night last week.
Apologies for the poor quality of some, I haven't much time for editing this week.
There is no doubt about it, it was a crazy night and it was great to see funds being raised for such a good cause.

First up we have Gerry Griffin

Then it was Andrew Campbell's turn

Eddie Murray was next on the couch

Rory Durnin was on the receiving end of some brotherly love

Ben O'Brien seemed to escape very lightly

Jamie Rooney didn't escape so easily, with Brian McCoy getting up close and personal with him.

It didn't seem to knock a feather out of Barney Kelly

Stephen Harmon took it all in his stride

Andy Mooney had lots of friends who offered to sponsor him.

Brian McCoy made his first appearance on the table, he too had plenty of friends to sponsor him.

Aaron Keely was next to feel the generosity of his friends.

I think without a doubt Brian Melia was the most popular participant on the night!

Last man for the wax treatment, but by no means least, was Aidan Mooney.

Pat McHugh was the first to get shaved

Brian McCoy was back on the couch to say goodbye to the beard

This RS1800 was absolutely immaculate.

12/04/19 - Mens Charity Wax Night In Aid of Happy Feet For Sophia

There wasn't any standing room in the Fair Green for the men's charity wax night in aid of Happy Feet For Sofia.
Fair play to everyone who helped out by either taking part or sponsoring someone to do it.
I will have a video in a day or 2.

05/04/19 - 'Vintage' football - Ardee Celtic vs Square United over 35s

A few short clips I recorded during the ' vintage ' match which was part of the fundraising efforts organised by the Malone family. A Night of Rock And Roll in Ardee in aid of Ardee Hospice .

Apologies for the jerky movements, I only have the drone a few weeks and haven't had much of a chance to get out with it..

05/04/19 - A Night of Rock And Roll in Aid of Ardee Hospice - The Side Effects

I had great plans to produce a video of the acts that performed but my ambition was greater than my ability. I ran out of time.
So here are the clips stitched together, warts and all.
It was great to see these lads take to the stage and play a cracking set on the night.

You can make the video full screen or view it on youtube by clicking on the links in the bottom right.

07/04/19 - Dubshed X

I'd never been to Dubshed, which is now it's 10th year, before and didn't know what to expect but needless to say it was well worth the trip.

07/04/19 - Cars And Coffee North East

It was another jam packed event for Cars And Coffee at DKIT in Dundalk. I've given up thinking that it can't get any better because it continues to go from strength to strength. There was some concern during the week that it might suffer with Dubshed and the Swords Show on on the same day but that fear was blown out of the water.

This made my day, it was on an absolute stunning S1000RR . If it has to be explained, there is no point

05/04/19 - A Night of Rock And Roll in Aid of Ardee Hospice

It was fabulous to witness the great turnout for the fundraising event for Ardee Hospice that was organised by the Malone family. You can say what you like about the town but when the chips are down the support is there.

10/03/19 - Cars And Coffee North East Video

This is something that I've wanted to do for ages.
It took a lot of trial and error, mostly error to get to this stage.
I love the variety of cars that turn out each month for the Cars And Coffee North East meet.
All of the footage was shot with a DJI Osmo Pocket and edited with Da Vinci Resolve 15.

1994 West Cork Rally

We enjoyed some great trips down to West Cork in the early 90s for the West Cork  Rally. Here's my photos with from the 1994 event. It's hard to believe they are 25 years old.
Many thanks to Kevin O'Driscoll for scanning the films for me a few years ago.

10/03/19 - Frank Meagher Tribute

Time and tide wait for no man as the saying goes and it's definitely true when you consider that it is 17 years since the untimely passing of Frank Meagher in a testing accident.
Frank was the undisputed people's champion in rallying and he achieved phenomenal results on a shoestring budget in comparison to his rivals, which culminated in winning the Dunlop Tarmac Rally Championship in 1995. I was lucky enough to work for him that year, helping with media duties. Unfortunately, I haven't got around to scanning the films from 1995 yet.
Here are my favourite photos of him from the early 90s.

(Apologies that the photo sequence is out of sync)

05/03/19 - O'Flahertys Classic Mercedes Collection - 1911 Benz 8/18

There's an exciting prospect for classic and vintage car lovers in Ireland this year with the news that the O'Flaherty Classic Mercedes Collection will go on display over the course of the year at the premises of MSL Ballsbridge.
The first car to go on display is a stunning 1911 Benz 8/18, which was fitted with a 1950cc 4 cylinder engine that produced 18bhp at 1800 rpm. Maybe it's a good thing that it wasn't so powerful, because it was only fitted with brakes to the rear wheels and they were applied by a leather belt being pressed against the transmission.
This car has been owned by some of Ireland's best known automotive collectors down through the years and is believed to be the only one in existence now. It was owned by the late Phil Monahan from 1988 to 1993 before he sold it to a UK collector who undertook an extensive and sympathetic restoration. It was bought at auction in the UK by Denis Dowdall on behalf of MDL in 2001.

03/03/19- Cars And Coffee North East

We were a bit nervous in the run up to the event as there was a storm due to sweep across the country but lucky enough it held off until after the show. Any fears that the storm would affect the turnout on the day were answered before 11am , because the main car park was full of top quality motors to see.

A quick chat with the owner confirmed that this was one of the very last 1st generation 911s to be made.
